COURSES FOR CHILDREN AND ADULTS ON ALL LEVELS. The DALLAS SCHOOL has morning classes from 10 am to 12 for adults and for children. Afternoon classes, only for children, take place at the RICHARDSON CAMPUS from 2 pm to 4:30 pm. ADULT CLASSES------The book DEUTSCH HEUTE serves as the main teaching tool in Adult Beginning and Intermediate courses. In addition, teachers bring copies of printed materials useful for their particular curriculum. In the more advanced courses, current affairs and other published articles of general interest combine the teaching of the language with general knowledge and understanding of Germany and the Germans. The five levels range from Beginning to Advanced 2. Many of the adult students are parents of children who are learning German at the same time in the Dallas children’s school. CLASSES FOR CHILDREN AND TEENAGERS ------are available at both locations. THE DOWN-TOWN DALLAS SCHOOL at Harwood and Young Streets offers pre-school classes for children from age four and three classes for students from first through seventh grade. THE RICHARDSON SCHOOL at Arapaho near Hillcrest consists of pre-school classes for children from age four, and seven levels for students from first to twelfth grade. All teachers of children’s classes follow the series MOBILE as recommended by the Central Agency For German Schools Abroad. This teaching plan leads to the level of proficiency required for students to take the AATG exams (American Association of Teachers of German). As students continue classes at the High School level, their German knowledge will lead them to participate in the exam for the prestigious German Language Diploma. Passing this will allow them to attend universities in German speaking countries without taking additional German language proficiency courses. Children’s classes at both the Dallas and Richardson locations, offer an additional 30-minute ‘music-theater’ class, which follows immediately after regular language classes.
Downtown Dallas classes are held at the First Presbyterian Church of Dallas at Harwood and Young streets; ( MAP ). Richardson Classes are held at All Saints Catholic Church,
5231 Meadowcreek Drive, Dallas, TX 75248.
On the north side of Arapaho between Hillcrest and Preston.

December 10th marks the end of another successful semester at the DGC’s German Language Saturday School of Dallas. The number students at both locations-- down-town and Richardson -- remains steady at last year’s levels. This speaks highly for our school and the quality of our teachers, especially considering today’s economic situation. Our second semester begins in January 2012 and, as always, we look forward to welcoming new students! Please let your friends and neighbors know that we will accepting applications for January enrollment. Last spring some of the junior high and all of the high school students took AATG exams (Association of American Teachers German). All students passed the various levels. We will administer the same test this coming spring semester. In addition, we have been accepted and received permission from the German Language Advisor of the German Consulate General the Federal Republic of Germany to invite our high school students to take the DSD 1 and possibly the DSD 2 (Deutsches Sprach Diplom). Students who pass these difficult eight-hour examinations administered by representatives of that office will have the opportunity to attend universities in German speaking countries without prior German language certification. Whether students will indeed study in Europe or not, our students would have flexibility to do so and simply passing these examinations will be an honor they can list on their applications to U.S. colleges and universities. On Saturday, December 10, the last day of school, at 10:30 a.m., teachers and students will celebrate the end of the semester and the joy of Christmas. The celebration will be held at the downtown location but is for students and teachers of both schools. The children will sing German Christmas songs, Santa will hopefully find his way to us, and it would be wonderful if you could join us too to sing O Tannenbaum with us. The location is the First Presbyterian Church of Dallas at Harwood and Young streets. Enter the parking garage on Park Avenue. |
